Chapter 5

Q. 1. Define Probability.

Ans. The probability of a given event is an expression of likelihood of occurence of an event. A probability is a number which ranges from 0 (zero) to 1 (one) - zero for an event which cannot occur and 1 for an event which is certain to occur.

Q. 2. Two coins are tossed. Find the probability of getting:

  1. One head and one tail
  2. Exactly two heads

Solution. When two coins are tossed, the total number of possible pairs is:
(H, H), (H, T), (T, T), (T, H)
So, n = 4

1) Favourable number of cases = 2
Therefore, required probability = 2/4 = 1/2

2) Favourable number of cases = 1
Therefore, required probability = 1/4
